What Is Elephrame?

Elephrame is an archive of data on pro-democracy movements and campaigns.  In documenting democracy, Elephrame aims to help defend democracy in the United States and, ultimately, worldwide, by showing everyday people that we are not alone in our fight to keep government power in hands of the people.

History
Elephrame was created by Alisa Robinson in 2010 as an "encyclopedia of ideas" that aimed to catalogue humanity's perceptions of the world around us. In late 2014, Robinson began to record demonstrations of the emerging Black Lives Matter movement on Elephrame. At the time, she noticed disagreements online about the scope of the movement and searched for a list of Black Lives Matter demonstrations that would settle the debate. When she realized that no such list existed, she created her own. Since then, as threats to American and worldwide democracy have become increasingly acute, she has shifted away from the "encyclopedia of ideas" and moved towards a sharper focus on how everyday citizens are taking action to defend democracy from those threats, whether through the Black Lives Matter movement's fight against anti-Black state violence, the anti-Trump movement's fight against authoritarianism or the Pro-Palestine movement's fight to prevent the annihilation of the Palestinian people by Israel in Gaza.
